GCC edge Hikers 3-2

A two-goal deposit from Shaka Gill spearheaded GCC ‘A’ hockey team to victory over Hikers in their first division match-up on Wednesday night in the Banks Night Hockey Tournament at the Thirst Park Ground.

A penalty strike from Philip Fernandes in the 24th minute and a 30th minute strike from Gill in the second half gave GCC`A’ a 3-2 win.

Hikers reduced the deficit in the 35th minute when Jarezeno Bell penetrated the defense of GCC goalkeeper, Michael Xavier, to earn the Hikers their first goal of the night.

However, the Bourda boys quickly restored the two-goal lead with another goal from Gill one minute later.
Hikers scored their second goal in the 50th minute through Robert France.

The ‘A’ team closed off a winning trend for the GCC side which opened with a 1-0 victory over Hikers in the ladies division with Aliyah Gordon scoring the game winner in the 35th minute.

In the second match of the night, the Hikers Generals and their junior counterparts, the Hikers Cadets played to a 1 – 1 draw.

Timothy Jonas scored for the Generals in the 15th minute while in the dying stages of the game, Cadet’s Travon Younge evened the score.

In the third scheduled match of the night, GCC ‘B’ received a walkover from Old Fort ‘B’ in a second division fixture.
