Banks powers up Troy Humphrey, Samuel Barker Memorial race meet

— company ploughs $300,000 into annual event

The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation has received some $300,000 from Banks DIH Limited under the Powerade Isotonic Sports Drink brand for the staging of the annual Troy Humphrey and Samuel Barker memorial cycle race meeting at month-end.
The event is set to pedal off on October 31 at the Amelia’s Ward Circuit in Linden.

On Wednesday, Banks DIH’s Merchandising and Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart, handed over a  cheque for the amount of $300,000 along with a supply of Powerade drinks to Kashif and Shanghai Director  Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.

Stewart in brief remarks said they were very pleased to be on board with the event which promises to attract Guyana’s best cyclists.
“We decided to use this product for the cyclists since it is a sports drink formulated with `B’ vitamins and electrolytes to hydrate the riders and supplement their energy needs during what we expect to be intense races around the Amelia’s Ward Circuit,” said Stewart.

Major said that the event was a collaborative effort between the Kashif and Shanghai Organization and the Roraima Bikers Club in memory of two outstanding individuals.

He noted that there will be events for all categories of riders including BMX and Veterans and said the meet was open to all riders.
Major promised a fun-filled day and said that over $500,000 in cash will be up for grabs.

Samuel Barker, a multi talented athlete who competed as a powerlifter, weightlifter and bodybuilder also had a successful tenure as an avid cycling administrator with the Roraima Bikers Club in Linden while Troy Humphrey who was one of Guyana’s top cyclists before he tragically lost his life.
Also onboard for the event are Bakewell; the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company and Humphrey’s Bakery and Farm Products of Ketley Street, Charlestown.
