Former national U-19 player dies after car crash

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC
– Former Trinidad & Tobago Under-19 wicketkeeper/batsman Dion Bennett succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicular accident seven days ago, and died at the San Fernando General Hospital on Friday.
Bennett got into a vehicular accident in Freeport, Central Trinidad, and was to the hospital, where he listed in stable condition.

His prognosis changed dramatically early on Friday, and he passed away at approximately early in the morning.

Bennett was part of the T&T Under-19 side that completed the double in Guyana three years ago.

His teammates included Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, and Lendl Simmons, all of whom proceeded to play for West Indies.

Two years later, he was the established wicketkeeper/batsman in the T&T Under-19 team, alongside Kieron Pollard and Adrian Barath, which captured the regional Under-19 crown in St. Vincent.

After plying his trade for Central Sports for a number of years, he switched to Clarke Road United one year ago, and recently returned with the team from a tour of Canada.
