Guyana goes under 0-2 to T/dad’s Soca Warriors

The Golden Jaguars failed to repeat their most recent performance against Trinidad’s Soca Warriors in Guyana as the went under 0-2 in their Digicel Caribbean Cup Qualifier at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in South Trinidad Thursday night.

The win by the Soca Warriors, sealed a spot in the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals scheduled for Martinique later this month.
The Soca Warriors, eight-time winners of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) title and 10-time finalists, joins host Martinique (1993 champions), four-time winners and defending champions Jamaica, 2008 runners-up Grenada and Guadeloupe as qualifiers for the finals which takes place from November 26 to December 5.

T&T dominated the game in front of their home crowd but did not get the opening goal until the 35th minute through Lester ‘Corn Curls’ Peltier who ran down the right side and made an intended cross that beat Guyanese goalkeeper Ronson Williams.

Then on the stroke of half time, the man with the golden boots, Devon Jorsling got his fourth goal of the tournament to give T&T a 2-0 cushion going into the change rooms.

Fellow striker Jamal Gay set Jorsling up on the left side of the goal and his shot flew past a hapless Williams.
In the second half, Gay missed two clear-cut chances early on. However, for the remainder of the game the Guyanese defence held firm and the game ended 2-0.

With the win, T&T improved to the maximum six points from two matches ahead of today’s final group match against Haiti at the same venue from 6.30pm.

In yesterday’s first match, 2006 champions Haiti defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1.
