GABA and LABA ready for All-Star Weekend showdown

The Eight Annual All-Star weekend is now only days away and the Georgetown and Linden Amateur Basketball Associations are all set for this weekend’s All-Star showdown which will run from Friday to Sunday.

The two associations recently named their respective junior and senior All-Star teams for the upcoming All-Star event.
This year’s All-Star weekend will be a historic one and an event to remember as it will feature the world renowned AND 1 Streetball team out of the United States.

But the Georgetown and Linden sub-associations are promising their own All-Star spectacle when they collide in the Junior and Senior All-Star games on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday via telephone, secretary of GABA, Robert Cadogan said he was eagerly anticipating the match-up.

Cadogan who is also a coach said that “the Georgetown side will be looking to take the double.”
Secretary of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), Beverley McDonald, was also very optimistic when she announced the teams ahead of this weekend’s clash.

“This year we are looking to go away with both the junior and senior trophies… we are training very hard for this [The All-Star games]” said McDonald.

For the past two years Linden have dominated the junior All-Star game, while last year, Georgetown got the better of the Lindeners in the senior All-Star encounter.

The players that will be representing Georgetown in the junior All-Star game are: Prince Giddings, Drexel Amsterdam, Shelroy Thomas, Courtley English, Richard Mohandatt, Elton Jefford Jnr, Yannick Dundas, Marlon Haynes and Tyrone Hamid.

Seniors: Travis Burnett, Stephon Henry, Ryan Stephney, Naylon Loncke, Hodayah Stewart, Royston Siland, Ryan Gullen, Travis Foster, Fabian Johnson, and Alwyn Bellamy.

Linden’s juniors will be coached by Kerwin Abrams and are as follows: Theodore Tappin, Marlon Pollydore Geoffrey La Rose, Yanick Primo, Akeem Kanhai, Sheldran Noel, Linden Fraser, Horace Gorrick, Kevon Farley and Orin Rose Jnr.

The senior All-Star team selected by LABA will be coached by Patrick Clark and are: Steve Neils Jr., Quincy Jones, Marvin Hartman, Nevin Grenville Louis James, Trevor Profit, Dwight Cooper, Neil Marks, Mark Louis and Omally Sampson.

The organizers and promoters of the event, Wildfire Entertainment, will select an All-Star team from the two teams to play against the AND 1 Streetball team on Sunday.
