Flora GCC of Guyana retains hockey title in T/dad

Flora Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Spartans hockey club retained their Under-21 women’s title at the fifth Shandy Carib Magnolias Indoor hockey tournament at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, in Trinidad on Saturday.

In the finals before a good crowd, Flora GCC took the crown 1-0 over Notre Dame.
The lone goal came as early as the third minute via Dominique De Groot after which her team withstood a barrage of attacks to register a third straight lien on the title.

GCC reached the final after beating Paragon 2-1 on sudden-death  penalty-flicks after a 1-1 draw while the Dames swept past Ventures 5-1 led by a Nakira Downes hat-trick.

In the existence of the under-21 competition, the Spartans boast a record unbeaten run as champions, after already producing exceptional wins to take the first two champion titles in 2009 and 2008.

At the awards ceremony that followed, Alicia Xavier (GCC) was named best goalkeeper.
