Kashif and Shanghai players sweep TT teams, singles events

In the team event, the two-man team of Ray `Copter’ Anderson and Stefan Barrow defeated the Guyana Fire Service 3-0.

Anderson and Barrow later battled it in the final of the Open individual singles event with Barrow coming out on top.

In the team event, Anderson and Barrow maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Barrow defeated Hackshaw 3 – 1 (11 – 9, 11 – 7, 9-11, 11 – 5) and in a close game Anderson edged Quincy Rice 2 – 3 (8 – 11, 13 – 11, 11 – 7, 12 – 14, 11 – 5).

Anderson and Barrow finished off the tie with a 3 – 0 (11 – 8, 11 – 8, 11 – 7) win in the doubles match.

For their win Anderson and Barrow received $50,000 while Anderson won a trophy and $50,000 for being named the most outstanding player.

Barrow was awarded a trophy for being named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

GFS received $25, 000 and a trophy for their second place performance while third place was jointly shared between the Police Officers Mess “A” and NP Electronics teams.

In other awards, GISA “A” carted off a trophy ad $10, 000 for winning the most disciplined team award while  Grace Kennedy Remittance Services (GKRS) was unanimously voted the best dressed team for which they took away a trophy and $20, 000.

The tournament was sponsored exclusively by the Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry (GBTI). In the singles final Barrow overcame Anderson 4 – 1 to emerge champion.

Remy Taitt and Patrick Triumph were joint third in the singles competition.
