Floyd Carmichael wins Eid-ul-Adha Scrabble Competition

Floyd Carmichael won four games and ended with a positive spread of 345 to win the Eid-ul-Adha Scrabble Competition staged by the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) on Wednesday at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas Lands.

Carmichael won his first game against Ruby Cummings (28) in the second round and this was followed by respective wins against Julian Skeete (109), Grace Hercules (181) and Ulric Harris (28).

In the sixth and final round he lost to Orlando Michael with only one point at stake.  With the top five players winning four games each it was up to the players spread to determine their positions.

Rudolph Michael, with a positive spread of 276  finished in second place, while Orlando Michael was third with a positive 228 spread.

Rudolph suffered losses to Grace Hercules (15) and Orlando (195), and scored wins against Ashwant Satamand (73), Cummings (8), Skeete (226) and Ulric Harris (103).

Harris was fourth with a positive spread of 214 and junior champion Satamand was fifth, finishing with a positive spread of 21 points. This was Satamand’s first senior tournament.
