Guinness Greatest of de Street…Quarterfinal matches kick off tonight

Four thrilling matches are expected tonight when quarterfinal action in the Guinness Greatest of de Street Futsal competition takes place at the National Park Tarmac from 8pm.

In the first game, Albouystown ‘A’ will go head-to- head with Norton Street  while West Front Road will oppose Stevedore Scheme in the second encounter.
Sophia against Broad Street ‘B’ and Alexander Village battling Laing Avenue round out the evening’s matches.
The first knockout round ended on Friday night with eight matches at the Cultural Centre Tarmac.

In the night’s results, Norton Street defeated North Last Entrance 2 – 1; Albouystown trounced Castello Housing Scheme 3 – 0; Laing Avenue outplayed East Front Road and Alexander Village defeated Queen Street Tiger Bay.

In the second  session, Sophia got past East La Penitence; CCT lost to Stevedore Housing Scheme; West Front Road defeated West Back Road and Broad Street upset Hop Street Tiger Bay in the final match of the night.

Stabroek Sports cameraman Orlando Charles caught some of the action of the first knockout stage in the Guinness Greatest of de Street Futsal competition on Friday night at the Cultural Centre Tarmac.

Rajesh George and Nigel Decamp scored in the fifth and 22nd minutes for Norton Street while North Last Entrance’s lone goal scorer was Travis Grant.
In the Albouystown/ Castello Housing Scheme showdown, Devon Dooker was the chief destroyer as he led Albouystown to victory with a hat-trick.
He scored in the first, second and ninth minutes of the match to dispose of the opposition quite quickly.

Leon Yaw scored a brace for Alexander Village to get them past the highly favoured Queen Street Tiger Bay Team and following that match, Elroy Parks scored the lone goal of the CCT/Stevedore HS match to send the CCT team packing.

Ola Pedro and Michael Oie scored second half goals for West Front Road to lead them past West Back Road who drew first blood after Stellon David scored in the first half.

Broad Street defeated Hope Street Tiger Bay 4 – 2 on penalty kicks after being deadlocked 0-0 at regulation time while Sophia reigned supreme over East La Penitence 3 – 2 in a penalty shootout after the game was tied 1 – 1 at the final whistle.

Laing Avenue defeated East Front Road 6 – 5 in a nail biting penalty shootout after the team could not break the 1 – 1 goal lock before full time.
