Gafoor, Moffat win scrabble competitions

Gafoor won five of his games in the six round competition and ended with a positive spread of 578.

He defeated Devraj Deonarine (164), Anand Mohabir (51), Colin Chichester (184), Grace Hercules (132) and Ashwant Satamand (138), respectively.

Gafoor’s only loss came from his fifth round match against Ulric Harris, where he lost 91 points.

Second place went to Chichester, who ended with a positive spread of 126 points. Other than his loss to Gafoor, Chichester won all of his matches, opening with consecutive victories over Grace Hercules (160) and Rudy Cummings (34).

Chichester’s next wins came from Evan Murray (15), Ashwant Satamand (10) and Ulric Harris (91). Mohabir placed third with four wins and a positive spread 344 points while Harris was fourth with four wins and a positive spread of  248.

In the four-round junior competition, Moffatt  won all four of his matches accumulating a positive spread of 780 points.

He defeated Jaspaul Satamand (158), Vivian Albert (191), Shandica Mathura (162) and Wazeer Dilipchand (269).

Satamand placed second with three wins and a positive spread of 203. Mathura, the only female in the junior category, was third from three wins and a positive spread of 33.
