Pierre Boucher plays unbeaten at RRT one–day rapid chess tourney

Rice Quality Consultant from Argentina, Pierre Boucher, played unbeaten to accumulate 6.5 points to emerge the winner of the RRT-sponsored one–day rapid chess tournament at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club last Saturday.

According to a press release from the Guyana Chess Federation, North Georgetown Secondary School student Sue-Hai Feng was the only one who was able to play to a draw against Boucher. And while he missed out on a take of the senior category with 4.5 points, Feng won the junior category of the competition.

Second place in  the senior competition went to Irshad Mohammed who gained 5.5 points and Frankie Farley with 4.5 points came in third.

Approximately 20 chess players participated in the competition, the release said. The competition featured seven rounds of rapid chess lasting 40 minutes each.

According to the release, Boucher donated his cash winnings to the GCF in support of the works of the Federation. Boucher said that he will do whatever he sees fit to support chess in Guyana.

Treasurer  Shiv Nandalall expressed gratitude to Boucher on behalf of the Federation, which he said  hopes to continue making the best of moves to promote chess locally.

Also making an address at the tournament, Managing Director of RRT Enterprise, Sean Ramrattan ,who said he is pleased to have the company associated with the game to give it the “push” it needs in order to thrive Guyana.
