Carter’s all-round effort gives Barbados warm-up win

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – West Indies A batsman Jonathan Carter produced a strong all-round performance to fire Barbados to a six-wicket win over Combined Campuses and Colleges with an over to spare in a Twenty20 warm-up game here yesterday.

The 23-year-old Carter grabbed four for 23 with his slow right-armers to reduce the CCC to 127 for nine off their allotted overs, after they won the toss and batted first at the 3Ws Oval.

Carter, who was recently picked in a 30-man West Indies squad for next year’s Cricket World Cup, then hammered an unbeaten 42 to steer Barbados to their target.

He cracked one four and three sixes off 38 balls while West Indies discard Dwayne Smith also stroked 42 from 38 balls.

With 29 runs needed off the last three overs, Carter struck two sixes off left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh in the 18th over which yielded 18 runs.

Earlier, captain Romel Currency made a run-a-ball 28 at the top of the order to get CCC away to a healthy start while Omar Phillips, overlooked for the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship squad, hammered an unbeaten 31 from 15 balls with two fours and two sixes.

Pacer Carlos Brathwaite claimed three for nine while fellow speedster Tino Best finished with two for 29.
The two teams are preparing for the CT20 scheduled for Antigua and Barbados from January 10-23.
