Disney goes Reggae

On June 8, Walt Disney records released a new album with a twist: classic Disney songs newly recorded by a cross-section of top reggae musicians.

According to a press release from Headline Entertainment of Jamaica and Walt Disney Records, the album, ‘The Disney Reggae Club’ features songs from immortal Disney animated films – from The Little Mermaid to Jungle Book – recorded by such esteemed artists as Grammy winning reggae legend Toots & the Maytals, five time Grammy winner Ziggy Marley, reggae’s most prolific and long lasting production team Sly & Robbie, multiple Grammy winner Cedella Marley, Grammy winner Burning Spear, legendary British band UB40 and Hasidic rapper Matisyahu.

The iTunes version of the album contains a remix of Cedella Marley’s track “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King, produced by seven-time Grammy winning producer/writer/recording artist Stephen Marley. The song will also be available as an individual download.

Cedella Marley, the first child of the reggae legend Bob Marley, currently lives in Miami and balances her life as CEO of Tuff Gong International, a member of Melody Makers, and a full-time mom of three.

The tracks and artists on the album are “Circle of Life” from The Lion King performed by Matisyahu; “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King by Cedella Marley; “Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book, by Steel Pulse; “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” from The Lion King by Morgan Heritage; “What a Wonderful World” by Ziggy Marley; “True to Your Heart” from Mulan by Wailing Souls; “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story by Sly & Robbie; “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” from Song of the South by Toots; “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book by Ub40; “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” from The Aristocats by Michael G & the Easy Star All-Stars; “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid by Burning Spear; “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid by Gregory Isaacs and “Find Yourself” from Cars by Yellowman.
