Digicel sponsorship for GABBFF

The Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) yesterday received sponsorship from Digicel at the cell phone giant’s head office in Kingston.

The sponsorship, which is in aid of the hosting of the GABBFF Senior Champion-ship on July 31 at the Theatre Guild in Kingston, was handed over to the president of the GABBFF, Fiona Harris, by Digicel’s Public relation Manager, Shonnet Moore.

The Senior Champion-ships, according to Harris at the press conference, will be the benchmark for selection of the national team to participate at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships scheduled for El Salvador from September 23-25.

The championship will see some familiar faces such as defending bantamweight champion from GDF, Devon Davis, along with 2009 CAC silver medalist in the light heavyweight division, Marlon Bennett along with 2004 CAC silver medalist, Clint Duke among the males while the females will see Letitia Miles, who is the Miss Body Fitness Novices champion along with Nadina Taharally in action.

Current Ms. Guyana Champion, Alisha Fortune, will miss the event since she is also a track and field athlete and is currently representing Guyana in the 100 and 200 metres at the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) Games in Venezuela.

The competition is expected to be of high quality as the body builders will vie for the honors of Mr. and Ms. Guyana along with Ms. Physique and Body Fitness titles.

The event is expected to kick off from 18:00hrs at the Theatre Guild this Sunday.
