WICB: Gayle has to withdraw comments before considered for selection

(WICB) St John’s, Antigua – The WICB Board of Directors at a meeting in St Lucia took the following decision with regard to Chris Gayle: Having received reports and reviewed correspondence between Chris Gayle and the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Team Management and taking into consideration public statements made by Gayle with regard to the Board and its officers, the Board requires that Gayle withdraws his comments in order to be considered for selection to the West Indies team.

Ulverston women robbed by gunmen

Police today said that at about 1940 h. last night businesswoman Beenawattie Nandalall, 43 years of Ulverston, Corentyne, her daughter Savitri Nandalall, 20 years and neighbour Patricia Parks, 45 years, were attacked and robbed of their gold jewellery, one cell phone, one laptop computer and cash by three men all armed with firearms.

Major fire guts Annai benab, four other buildings

Several persons were left homeless following an afternoon fire at Annai in Region 9 (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) on Monday which was caused by embers from a nearby garbage heap According to reports, Central Annai resident Deroy Milton, who lives close by, lost his home and two other buildings from which he and his wife operate a cassava mill.

The Guyana Elections Com-mission yesterday served notice that October 27 is Nomination Day where lists of candidates for the general and regional elections have to be submitted to the Chief Election Officer.

GAZA/JERUSALEM,  (Reuters) – Israeli soldier Gilad  Shalit and hundreds of Palestinians crossed Israel’s borders in  opposite directions yesterday as a thousand-for-one prisoner  exchange brought joy to families but did little to ease decades  of conflict.
