Knife-point robbery accused remanded

A man accused of robbing another man at knife-point on South Road was on Tuesday remanded by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that Kevin Jones, 23, of 42 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, being armed with a knife, robbed Wesley Cornette of a number of items, amounting to $32,800, property of the said Wesley Cornette.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, stated that last Friday the virtual complainant was walking along South Road when two males approached him, pointing a knife to his neck.

One of  them pushed his hand in the man’s pocket and relieved him of the items. Cornette solicited help from someone while the two men attempted to make their escape, and there was a chase after them  leading into a yard in Charlotte Street.

A report was made and one suspect was charged.

Jones was refused bail and the matter was adjourned to Friday, when it will be called in Court 5.
