This week we asked the man and woman in the street if they have been following the local 10/10 softball cricket which is sponsored by GT&T. Their comments follow:

Gavin Lynch, vendor –
‘I don’t follow it. First thing, I am not a cricket fan so I do not follow up any cricket be it local, regional or international. The only sport I like is dancing.’

Shorad Ally, public sector employee – ‘Sometimes I follow it. It is a wonderful game. It is interesting but I think they should show it on television for those who can’t go to the game and watch because I think it will encourage more people to participate in the tournament. I also think that game is a way of keeping the younger generation occupied and healthy. ‘

Audrey Daniels, vendor – ‘I am not getting the chance to follow it up because of my work but I plan on going to one of the games. I am a fan of cricket and I always watch when it is showing.’

Jason Marshall, cricketer
– ‘I took part in the 10/10 with the Meadow Brook team. It is trying to keep the youth off the street during the weekend and I like that about the game. My team made it to the second round before we got knocked out of the competition. I think that people should show a little more interest in the game especially as it keeps communities occupied.’

Billy Christian, private sector employee – ‘I really don’t follow it but I have a team that I like because I have a friend on the team. I only follow the team the Wolf Warriors. It is a good idea. I like it, I think it will help to reignite the interest of cricket in Guyana and hopefully raise the standard of cricket in Guyana.’

Pauline Morgan, self employed – ‘The game is very encouraging for the young and old to keep them active and as a means of recreation. I keep up with the game through the news. I like cricket but I don’t get to go because I work. I would like to go to a game before the tournament is over.’

Terrence Deen, businessman – ‘I don’t follow local cricket. I only follow international cricket because I like seeing the stars. I guess that is why I don’t follow local cricket because I don’t know anybody playing.’

Barbalyn Cozier, vendor – ‘I just don’t get the time to follow it. I am busy and am on the road all week on Sundays I use the time to get my rest. The matches should be shown on the television or aired on the radio for those persons who can’t go to the game.’

Anita, self employed – ‘I don’t follow the local game because I have to work and don’t be at home. I like cricket but only follow local cricket if it is on the TV. I have heard of this 10/10 game though.’

Phillip Bacchus, self employed – ‘Yea I follow the game but I don’t know the names of the teams. I went to one of the matches once at the National Stadium. I think 10/10 is more exciting and spicier than the 20/20 and test cricket.’
