Laptops for children among deals signed by Antigua with China

Antigua on Friday signed four bilateral agreements with China including one for the provision of laptops for each child on the island.

A release from the Prime Minister’s office said that the deals were signed

during a visit to Antigua and Barbuda by State Councillor Madame Liu Yandong.

The four agreements pave the way for the start of a number of

projects including the construction of a new terminal building at the V.C.

Bird International Airport and the provision of laptop computers for the

Government’s `One Laptop per Child’ programme. Guyana also has a similar programme set to start soon and China is also expected to assist.

The new terminal building will be constructed with a concessional loan.

An agreement on economic and technical cooperation was also signed along with one on the strengthening of bilateral, scientific and technological cooperation.

The agreement on the donation of laptops by China was signed by Jacqui Quinn-Leandro, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth and Gender Affairs and Cao Jianlin, Vice Minister of Science and Technology.
