Driver dies in Diamond crash

A 49-year-old Stabroek News driver died this morning after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and ended up in a trench on the Diamond, East Bank Demerara public road.

Owen Elliott, of 168 Thomas Street, Kitty, a father of three who has been working for Guyana Publications Inc for over eight years, died from drowning after the vehicle –a Suzuki van-plunged into the trench. Elliot along with Harold Lam, were on their way to distribute newspapers in the Diamond Housing Scheme when tragedy struck.

Lam reported that Elliot was making a turn and was not aware that water was on the road. The van he was driving skidded as it came into contact with the water and he lost control. The vehicle ended up in the trench. Initial reports indicated that he died by drowning. Lam escaped unhurt.
