Man attacked pedestrians with knife-court hears

A man charged over the possession of an offensive weapon was yesterday remanded after the court was told that he was attacking pedestrians with a knife.

Mark Smith, a labourer, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharrry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that Smith had the knife in his possession without lawful authority or excuse.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, told the court that on January 12, Smith was attacking persons walking along the Camp and Robb street junction. He was said to be of unsound mind and had no fixed place of abode.

“I gah a house in Lamaha Park, it burn down,” he later explained to the court. Referring to the charge, he said, “Me aint know nothing bout the.”

The matter was transferred to Court 2 for January 17.
