Den Amstel man now faces manslaughter charge over dead brother

The murder charge against Marlon Roberts, the Den Amstel man accused of killing his older brother last year has been withdrawn and a manslaughter charge instituted instead.

Roberts, 21, was not required to plead to the new charge last Wednesday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrateโ€™s Court and was granted bail in the sum of $400 000 but no bail was posted. It is alleged that on November 12, 2010 at Den Amstel, he killed his brother, Gregory Roberts.

The killing allegedly stemmed from a row over $1000. Reports are that around 8:30 in the evening of the day in question, the Roberts brothers were involved in an argument over $1000.

Marlon allegedly threw the money on the ground and this further angered his brother and they became involved in a scuffle.

He then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Gregory, killing him. The two shared a home at 92 Den Amstel Public Road.
Marlon will have to return to court on January 25th.
