CDB challenged to find CLICO solutions

(BBC) The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has been tasked with finding a solution to the financial difficulties at regional companies Clico and British American.

The decision came out of last Friday’s meeting of Caricom finance ministers in Trinidad and Tobago.

CDB president Compton Bourne is expected to assemble a team of economic experts to study the problem which has plagued investors and the economies of the Eastern Caribbean states.

The mandate from the finance ministers is for the bank to propose solutions for discussion by the heads of government when they meet at their intercessional meeting next month.

Policy holders in the Eastern Caribbean lost big when the insurance giant crashed two years ago.

Trinidad and Tobago has been dealing with local investors.

But Finance Minister Winston Dookeran says the government cannot do the same for investors outside of the country.
