‘Tarzan’ charged over murder of Brazilian found in shallow grave

Wycliffe Smith, known as ‘Tarzan,’ was yesterday charged with the murder of Brazilian miner Armando Da Silva at Moco Moco Mountain Foot, Central Rupununi.

Smith was not required to enter a plea to the charge and was later remanded to prison.
The case was transferred to the Lethem Magistrates’ Court for March 7.

On Saturday, police allegedly arrested Smith, after responding to reports that he was consuming alcohol at Moco Moco and was boasting of having murdered a man and buried his body.

Police said subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two Brazilians, who were found with a quantity of suspected marijuana. One of the men claimed that the suspect had killed his brother. Police then began a search of the mountains and it was during this time that they found the body of Da Silva in a shallow grave.
