Fire razes Tucville house

A fire yesterday gutted a house in Eden Street, Tucville, leaving three persons homeless.

Debris was all that was left of the small, flat house at Lot 6 Eden Street after the midday fire.

The two men and the woman who lived in the house were not at home at the time of the incident. They were last seen yesterday morning and their location was unknown up to the time that this newspaper visited the scene.

A neighbour told Stabroek News that the fire began at around 12:45pm and it is suspected that the occupants had left a stove burning.

The neighbour explained that a few months back a relative of hers had to enter the house and turn off the stove, which had been left burning. She continued that there was no electricity in the home and the occupants would sometimes use candles.

When this newspaper made contact with the Guyana Fire Service, an official said they were alerted to the fire and later responded.
