Bandits rob Chinese restaurants

Bandits raided two Chinese restaurants in the city and escaped with cash on Monday night.

The first robbery was committed around 8:45pm at the Hilton Chinese Restaurant, located at Middleton and Garnett streets, Campbellville. Just fifteen minutes later, the Cambo Restaurant on Regent Street, Bourda, was also held-up.

In a press release on the Hilton robbery, police said that the cashier Yang and waitress Luzette Henry were attacked and robbed by two men. One of the men was armed with a firearm.

Investigations revealed that the perpetrators entered the restaurant and held up the victims and took away three cellular phones and $90,000 before escaping.

When Stabroek News visited the restaurant yesterday, it was open for business. However, a man who was identified as the proprietor said that he did not understand what was being asked of him.

Workers there, meanwhile, said that they were not around at the time of the robbery.

Several armed robberies have been committed on the Hilton restaurant.

Meanwhile, in the Cambo robbery, two men, including one armed with a gun, walked into the restaurant and held up the employees. They escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

An employee, who noted he was not around at the time of the incident, said it was unclear how much money was taken. He said that police visited the establishment and took statements.

The restaurant was robbed sometime last year.
