Mother, son accused of Zeelugt jewels theft

A woman and her son accused of stealing over half a million dollars in jewellery from her husband were granted bail when they appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a larceny charge.

Shakeela Isaacs and Vishaul Singh of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo both pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the dwelling house and were granted $40 000 bail by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin.

It is alleged that the duo between January 26 and 28 last at Zeelugt, stole from the dwelling house of Hubert Singh a gold bangle worth $160 000, two gold rings valued at $120 000 and two gold chains worth $334 000 to the total value of $614 000, property of Hubert Singh.  A report was made to the police and following investigations, they were arrested and charge.

Singh is the reputed husband of Isaacs and Vishaul is his step-son.

The court was told that none of the items was recovered. The duo was ordered to return to court on April 12 at Vreed-en-Hoop.
