‘Witch’ surrenders

Fugitive Clifton Ramcharran, called ‘Witch,’ surrendered yesterday after a week on the run.
Ramcharran, 38, of Number Two Village, East Canje, Berbice had escaped from the New Amsterdam Court last Monday during a commotion created by another prisoner, Clarence ‘Wild Hog’ Williams. As the police moved to subdue Williams, Ramcharran used the opportunity to escape.

Police had issued a wanted bulletin for Ramcharran last week.
Stabroek News understands that Ramcharran’s surrender to the police was facilitated by attorney-at-law Mursaline Bacchus, at whose office the escaped man was arrested. A relative reportedly contacted the lawyer, seeking his assistance in negotiating Ramcharran’s surrender.
