Cops caught man smoking ganja at National Service ground -court told

A Stone Avenue man accused by the police of smoking marijuana was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $50,000, after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The allegation against Rawle Williams is that on February 6, at the Guyana National Service (GNS) ground, he smoked cannabis, a prohibited substance.

Initially, the mason, of 11 Stone Avenue, Campbellville Housing Scheme, accepted the charge of smoking cannabis, when it was read to him. Upon attorney Nigel Hughes’ advice, however, the accused later changed his plea to not guilty. In presenting the prosecution’s case, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar said that on the day in question, the defendant was caught by police smoking the illegal substance.

The prosecution had no objection to bail. Williams is to return to court on March 10.
