Rudolph London, the man accused of severely beating Shaunell Warrick, who died a month later in the hospital, was arraigned on a murder charge at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
London, 39, of 109 Best Village, West Coast Demerara, was not required to plead to the capital offence and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin. It is alleged that the accused on January 31, 2011, murdered Warrick.
Reports reaching this newspaper are that on New Year’s Day, Warrick was severely beaten by London, who had been her on-and-off partner. Warrick, 39, of 3471 Stevedore Housing Scheme, sustained
head injuries as a result of a beating with a cutlass, relatives said. War
rick, a mother of two and a teacher at the East Street Nursery School, was attacked at the man’s home at Best Village. The woman suffered a fractured skull. On January 31, she died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Initially, London was charged with attempted murder. On his first appearance at court on January 6, his mother had told the court that her son is receiving psychiatric treatment. Following
the chopping, London had gone into hiding but was turned over to the police by a relative. The attempted murder charge was instituted but it wa
s withdrawn yesterday and the murder charge read to him.
He will return to court on April 28 at Vreed-en-Hoop.
