Professed asthmatic fined for ganja possession

A man who told the court he uses marijuana to treat his asthma was fined $3,000 on Tuesday and ordered to do six months community service by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Wesley Morrison accepted the possession of narcotics charge which stated that on February 7, at Georgetown, he had in his possession one gramme of cannabis.

When asked by the Magistrate the purpose for his having the illegal substance, Morrison said: “Ah does use it fuh a purpose meh worship. I get asthma and duh is wah ah does use it fuh.”

The non-custodial sentence was then handed down.
