Hope Canal structures for tendering

The tender document for the construction of the sluices, bridge and outfall in connection with the Hope Canal project will be launched on Saturday, Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud said yesterday.

Persaud and a team of engineers yesterday visited the project site to inspect the resumption of clearing works, a release from GINA said. The work recommenced on February 5, with seven pieces of equipment, six excavators and one bulldozer being employed to clear the area of vegetation.

According to Persaud, the work is proceeding according to plans with direction coming from experts from the United Kingdom and Guyana. So far, close to $1B has been spent on the project, the release said.

While the projected timeline is 18 months, Persaud said that the weather patterns have to be taken into account as this will impinge on the work that is to be carried out beyond the Crown Dam.
