Georgetown schools ‘mashed-up’ the rest of the competition in the Education Ministry/Unit of Allied Arts Children’s Costume and Float Parade held Saturday last in the city.
City schools won all of the prizes in three of the six categories judged, leaving Regions 1 to 10 to share the prizes in the other three.
The nursery, primary and secondary school bands winners were from Georgetown only. Awarded first position in its category was Precious Jewels Nursery while Happy Hearts Nursery came in at second place, followed by Head Start Nursery and then Sherman’s Nursery in fourth position.
In the primary school band category, Winfer Gardens Primary took first place followed by South Ruimveldt Primary. North Georgetown Primary copped the third position, while Rama Krishna was granted fourth.
First place in the secondary school band category was Ascension Secondary, followed by the Mae’s School and Cummings Lodge, respectively. Kingston Secondary was granted fourth position.
The Hinterland Scholarship Division, which received incredible feedback from the audience, was awarded first place in the ‘other children’s organisations’ category. The HIV Prevention Project of the Education Ministry came in at second place and Z-Bra Children’s Network in third.
First position in the individual category was claimed by Chateau Margot Primary in Region 4, while second position went to Jamel Broomes, a self-governed entry. In third position was Kawall Primary of Region 3 followed by Dolphin Secondary.
Region 8, Potaro/Siparuni, won the first prize in the regional band competition, while coming in at second was Region 4, Demerara/Mahaica, followed by Region 2, Pomeroon/ Supenaam, and Region 3, Essequibo Islands/West Demerara, respectively.
This competition was judged on creativity, clarity of concept, portrayal, craftsmanship, maneuverability and creativity.
