Housing authority signs contracts for works in regions 4, 9

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) on Monday signed several contracts for developmental works in new and existing schemes.

According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), CH&PA CEO Myrna Pitt inked the contracts for the construction of roads, drainage  structures and a pure water distribution network in Culvert City, Lethem, Region Nine; the construction of the access road at Eccles/Providence; and the upgrading of roads at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara. Housing Minister Irfaan Ali noted that at the end of the second month of the year the ministry has already committed the entire amount of its 2011 budgetary allocation to aggressively pursue developmental works countrywide.

The $89M project in Lethem will be executed by V Dallip Enterprises and will last for four months. “Six hundred lots or 2,640 people are expected to benefit,” GINA said. According to Ali, Lethem is expanding very rapidly and infrastructure works are being done to facilitate this. He said in 2010, over $200M was spent on developmental works in Tabatinga, Region Nine, which included a new well.

Ivor Allen won the $111,082,390 contract to build the access road to the third entrance into the housing scheme being constructed at Eccles/Providence. Ali urged the contractors to execute the job within the stipulated three-month period in order to facilitate other works there. He said the surface of the road will only be done up to the crusher run stage so as to accommodate the movement of heavy-duty machinery for the construction along the two-mile stretch of road.

Mac. Junior International signed the $262,139,603 contract for the upgrading of roads at Good Hope. The minister pointed out that the scheme boasts 75 per cent occupancy and will directly benefit 6, 150 people.
