Son chopped off three of father’s fingers

A 21-year-old man who was charged with felonious wounding appeared yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.

It is alleged that on February 24 at Kariako Village,  North West District, Rocky Charles and his father, Hollingsworth Charles, had a dispute when Rocky Charles was dealt several lashes with a piece of wood to his body by his father.

Pulling a cutlass from the long boots he was wearing, the defendant reportedly then chopped off three of the virtual complainant’s fingers.

The VC was rushed to hospital where he received treatment.

The defendant had no relatives present at court but  Juliet Kissoon, a welfare officer from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs made an appearance.

She lodged bail which was granted in the sum of $40,000 by Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry, and the matter was transferred to the Akwero Magistrate’s Court for April 5.
