Over 220 persons benefit from eye care exercises in regions two, three 

Over 220 persons recently benefited from eye care when the Health Services Department hosted an outreach exercise in Leguan and Wakenaam in Region Three and Suddie in Region Two.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said 30 persons were treated at Leguan one of whom was diagnosed with cataract and 22 who required prescription and reading glasses.

At Wakenaam, 74 persons were treated. Six were diagnosed with cataract, five with pterygium, one needs corrective surgery to his lens and 40 need prescription and reading glasses.

At Suddie, the team treated 116 persons, 30 of whom were diagnosed with cataract and 12 with pterygium. Forty-eight persons are said to need prescription and reading glasses.

GINA said the patients who need surgery will have their transportation, including the trip to the ophthalmology hospital in Berbice, and other needs met by the ministry.

To date the outreach exercises have been successful, the release said adding that they are expected to be held countrywide.

Previous exercises were held at the Buxton Health Centre and the Enmore Poly Clinic in Region Four and at Ithaca, Region Five.
