Video: Spring tide washes away Friendship bypass

Spring tide has washed away the bypass that was constructed at a bridge that is being repaired at Friendship, East Bank Demerara resulting in the public road being flooded and reducing traffic to a snail’s space.

According to reports reaching Stabroek News the area has been susceptible to flooding whenever there is springtide. However, some time early this morning the water rose very high and washed away the bypass. Water then flooded onto the roadway and at present it is difficult to identify some sections of the road from the trench. There is just one lane for traffic owing to the bridge construction and there is a long line from New Hope to Supply even as police officers attempt to direct its flow.

The Didco factory in the area is also under water.
