Pipe thief for year-long prison term

A man accused of stealing a quantity of items belonging to another was yesterday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.

Kamall Ally pleaded guilty to a charge which stated that between March 26 and March 29, at Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Asrof Alli and stole a quantity of pipelines and other items, valued $111,000.

Police corporal Venetta Pindar, in presenting the prosecution’s facts of the case, said that the two are known to each other and on the day in question Ally broke into a room in which the items were being kept and stole them.

Pindar said that the items were kept locked away in a house which the Alli is building.

A police report was subsequently made and after investigations were conducted, Ally was arrested and charged for the offence to which he admitted.
