Robbery suspect hospitalised after drinking phone cleaner

Reaz Khan, 20, is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he ingested a quantity of telephone cleaner, while being held by police.

Police said yesterday that the incident occurred at about 7pm on Thursday at the Beterverwagting Police Station, where Khan was in custody in connection with the investigation into a report of break and enter and larceny.

According to police, Khan, of Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was awaiting transportation to another station when “he grabbed the container with the liquid from a desk and drank some of the contents before it was taken away by the police.”

He was subsequently taken to the GPH for treatment and has been admitted as a patient under guard. His condition was listed as stable.
