Break-in accused refused bail after two more charges

Just over a week after he was granted bail on a breaking and entering larceny charge, Devon Nurse was arraigned on two similar charges.

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Nurse, 35, to prison yesterday.
The first allegation against Nurse is that on December 12, 2010, at Alberttown, he broke and entered a home and stole items valued at $173,000. The items were the property of Rayon Primo. The second charge read that on July 15, 2009, he broke and entered the home of Fiza Bacchus and stole items valued at $60,000.

Nurse, a labourer, pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had previous matters pending before the court and if granted bail he was likely to commit offences of a similar nature. Nurse was refused bail and the matter was transferred to Court Five for April 12.

On March 28, Nurse had been placed on $120,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on a breaking and entering and larceny charge.
