Murdered Da Silva St man was lured by assailants

- case drug-related, cops say

Police are looking for a man who gunmen are believed to have used as “bait” to draw Brian Chung from his well-secured yard before they shot him in the head on Thursday evening.

A senior police official disclosed yesterday that the man, a minibus conductor, was seen running from Chung’s 79 Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty yard, shortly after the fatal gunshot was heard.

Stabroek News was told that the police have so far gathered that the man was used as “bait” by the gunmen to lure Chung, 41, from his residence. The official explained that the conductor is being seen as key to nabbing the perpetrators.

Additionally, the official said from all appearances Thursday night’s killing appears to be drug-related as Chung was known to be involved in drugs and was charged for related offences.

Chung, called ‘Chungy,” the official said, was also wanted in connection with the discovery of a gun, cocaine and marijuana that was found at a Garnett Street, Kitty house on March 28. Police earlier that day had responded to a report of threats involving the use of a firearm and subsequently intercepted a driver, Dustin Jackson, in a motor vehicle at Eping Avenue. A search of the vehicle reportedly unearthed a .32 Taurus revolver and 15 rounds. Later, a search was conducted at Jackson’s house and another gun, a quantity of cocaine and suspected marijuana were found. Jackson is currently before the court on seven charges.

According to reports, shortly after 7:30 pm last night, two men on a Honda motorcycle rode into the man’s yard and shortly after an argument erupted between the men and Chung, a gunshot was heard. Soon after, the men were seen riding away from the scene wearing masks.

Police, who officially identified Chung as a “food vendor,” yesterday said in a statement that he was at his home chatting with a friend when two men walked into the premises. One of them pulled out a firearm and discharged a round, hitting him in the head. They escaped on a motor cycle. The wounded Chung was taken to Georgetown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
