Benschop, Kissoon cross-examine another witness

Social activist Mark Benschop and columnist Freddie Kissoon on Tuesday cross-examined another witness who took the stand to give evidence in the obstruction case against them.

Inspector Grant is the third of five witnesses to have been cross-examined by the two, in the absence of their attorneys Nigel Hughes and Khemraj Ramjattan.

Hughes and Ramjattan were absent from the proceedings when the matter was called on April 15 as well, leaving the defendants to cross-examine the first two witnesses. The matter continues on May 10. Benschop and Kissoon have denied the charge levelled against them and have been granted their pre-trial liberty after being placed on $1 bail each.

The allegation against the duo is that on December 21, 2010 at Cemetery Road, Georgetown, they obstructed the municipal worker from performing his duty at the dumpsite.

The matter is being heard by Magistrate Chandra Sohan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
