US-based nurse sees improvement in Linden health care

Lindener Donna Cadogan-Douglas who  credits the highlights of her nursing career to the foundation training she had obtained at the Charles Rosa School of Nursing in Linden says she has seen noticeable improvement in the delivery of professional health care  with the new Linden Hospital Complex.

She said that following a walkthrough at the LHC, the evidence of improvements is palpable. “I have seen vast development in that hospital – it is much bigger,

Donna Cadogan-Douglas

it’s much more developed and much more prepared to offer a wider range of community health care services.”

Cadogan-Douglas, an RN (Registered Nurse) in the U.S. with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, noted that two years ago when she returned home to Linden on one of her usual vacation trips, she was overwhelmed at the site of the brand new facility which now houses the Linden Hospital Complex.

She said that despite there being several challenges faced at the institution, there has been noticeable improvement which is aiding the delivery of professional health care.

“I want to commend the efforts of the nurses, especially the young ones, the doctors whether  they are from Linden or somewhere else, for the efforts they are putting into making health care delivery what it should be,” said Cadogan-Douglas.

And coming home for her vacation is not just to sit back, admire and enjoy the pleasure of celebrations. For her it affords the opportunity to share with others whatever knowledge and skills she would have obtained over the years living overseas.

“When I come home I bring to give back to my community which is the root of my entire development all the way into adulthood.”

Over the past few days Cadogan-Douglas  has been very active in a number of community service activities organized by the Linden Fund for the Linden Town Week.

According to this proud Lindener, dearest to her heart was her role in a workshop which focused on the establishment of a Psychiatric Unit at the LHC, working on empowering women at the women’s forum and just enjoying the privilege of interacting with the ‘golden age folks’ at a senior citizens luncheon recently.

Meanwhile, she sees Linden climbing the ladder of development, noting that while things may be looking as if they’re moving slowly, Linden is a gold and diamond pond for development. In this regard she referred to the increase in  traffic from Brazil to Guyana which passes through Linden, the increase in mining activities in the interior locations and the looming possibilities for the start-up of new and improved economic activities in Linden.

“Linden has what it takes to produce resourceful persons who can function wherever in the world they may go,” said this daughter of the Linden soil.

She said  too that she is always proud to say, “I am a Guyanese” wherever she many go. She lived in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago for more than twenty years before moving to the USA where she has been living for the past nine years.

And her advice to residents of Linden is: “Always remember the skies are the limit, dream and then wake up and start living your dreams, don’t be afraid to reach for the stars and do it with desperation and with perseverance –  you will get there and the fun in it is that you’ll be there and not even realize it because you’ll be so focused always reaching for more.”
