No.60 man shot after armed bandits invade home

The police say they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 2050h yesterday at No. 60 Village, Corentyne, during which Beshram Persaud and his wife Vidya Persaud were attacked and robbed  of a quantity of jewllery by three men armed with handguns.

A police release today said that investigations have revealed that Persaud, 47 years, and his two children were in the lower flat of the building praying when the perpetrators entered through an open door and confronted Persaud who was shot and injured to his left side hip in the process. The men then held up Vidya Persaud who was in the kitchen and took away a quantity of jewellery and escaped.

Persaud was taken to the Skeldon Hospital and referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he has been admitted a patient in a stable condition.

A magazine containing fourteen live 9mm. rounds and a spent shell was recovered at the scene by the police.
