Corentyne businessman badly chopped

The police are reporting that at about 0025h today businessman Deochand Hemchand, 32 years of No. 11 Village, Corentyne was chopped by bandits to the head and hands. He is now at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

A statement from police headquarters, Eve Leary said that Hemchand and his wife were attacked and robbed by four men, two of whom were armed with a shotgun and a cutlass.

The police said that investigations revealed that the men broke into the home and held up Hemchand and his wife during which he was chopped to his hands and head. The perpetrators took away $200,000 and a quantity of jewellery and escaped.

Hemchand has been admitted a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
