Bipolar Guyanese man charged with mother’s stabbing death

A 27-year-old-year-old emotionally disturbed Guyanese man has been charged with stabbing his mother to death in their Brooklyn apartment last week Wednesday.

According to the New York Daily News Ingham Scarder was taken into custody when police arrived at the Flatbush apartment and found Alfonette Scarder, 47, near death.

She had been stabbed several times, and died after paramedics rushed her to Kings County Hospital, police said.

Ingham Scarder, who police sources said suffers from bipolar disorder, was charged with murder and weapons possession. He has yet to be arraigned.

He was the one who called 911 and informed them of the stabbing, the report said.

A neighbour had said she heard banging at the family’s apartment door and then loud shouts before the fatal attack.

“The boy was banging, banging, banging [at the door],” said Johanna Mary, 38. “After a lot of yelling, I heard nothing. I look out my door again and there were several police in the hallway.”

She then opened her door and saw a gruesome scene.

“I saw a lot of blood on the floor spread around the hallway,” Mary told the Daily News.

Other residents said Scarder – who hailed from Guyana – had long struggled with her son.

“She couldn’t control what her kid was doing and I think that was one of the problems,” said family friend Desiree Chapman. “She’s a wonderful person – a nice person, in-and-out.”
