GPL completes maintenance

– new round to start May 19

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said yesterday that maintenance works at its new Kingston plant have come to an end, five days ahead of schedule but a second round is expected to begin later this month.

The overhaul at the Number 2 unit at the new plant, which had resulted in a string of frequent power cuts and raised the ire of many customers, has ended. However, GPL said its network maintenance programme will continue apace from May 19 with the 5.5MV Number 4 unit.

The company will confirm the state, date and duration of the maintenance at a later date.

The network maintenance schedule will be published in the Sunday edition of the Guyana Chronicle, a press release from GPL said yesterday.

“GPL solicits the patience and understanding of its consumers,” the release added.
