Student alleges gang rape at Kuru Kuru Training Centre

A female student of the Kuru Kuru Training Centre on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway has alleged that she was raped by three male students, one of whom has since disappeared.

Reports are that the female student reported to the administrators of the institution that she was raped by three young men.

The incident occurred on Thursday last but the young woman was afraid to report the incident to the administrators, this newspaper was told. She later confided in her parents and this led to a report to the police.

When contacted yesterday, an administrator at the training centre told Stabroek News that he was not in a position to comment on the issue and he directed all queries to the subject ministry. Efforts to obtain a comment from the Assistant Director of Youth at the MCYS were in vain.

This newspaper understands that the young woman alleged that she was attacked by the three boys during the day on Thursday and after committing the act, they threatened to harm her if she told anyone.

According to reports, after the police were called in, two of the accused were placed under arrest while another “disappeared” from the facility, a source noted.

On Monday afternoon, the mother of the young man in question travelled to the facility, which is located off the highway, and created a ruckus while questioning administrators about the whereabouts of her son.

The woman alleged that she did not hear from him for several days and as such she travelled to the institution to find out where he was. She was later told of the allegations made against the young man and his colleagues.

According to a source at the institution, the young man was recently involved in a “brawl” with another man and the matter has been pending in court.
