An Antiguan family has been plunged into mourning after one of its members, Guyanese Kerwin Anthony Gomes, died after falling from a mango tree in Villa on Wednesday afternoon.

The Antigua Observer said that the 38-year-old man of Jennings New Extension had just dropped off his fiancée and life partner for almost 20 years, Sandra Joseph, to work when the accident occurred.

The report said that bystanders contacted the Emergency Medical Services after the self-employed mechanic, who is believed to have been electrocuted, climbed into the tree to pick fruits. A sharp scream was heard before he fell from the tree, the report said.

Gomes migrated to Antigua at the age of 13 with his mother and had lived here for over 20 years.

He is survived by his 15-year-old son Keiron, brother Clyde, his half-sister Leslyn and a host of other family members, the report said.
