Man stabbed at Black Water identified as mechanic

The man who was fatally stabbed at Black Water Backdam, Region Eight on Tuesday once owned a mechanic shop in Mahdia.

This newspaper was unable to ascertain the man’s full name or contact his relatives but residents of Mahdia said they knew him to be a mechanic. Police said that the only name given for him was Steve and residents said yesterday that they knew him as `Civic’.

A resident explained that the man operated a mechanic shop in the area and was living with his wife and at least two other relatives. According to him, the man then moved to Konawaruk where he continued working as a mechanic. He explained that the area where the man was stabbed is located very close to Konawaruk and it could have been that he was doing a job at Black Water when the incident occurred.

The body is still at the Mahdia Hospital Mortuary and arrangements are being made to have the body transported to the city for a post-mortem examination.

Police had said in a press release that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the man which occurred around 13:30 hours. Investigations revealed that the victim who was suffering from a stab wound to the neck was being transported by vehicle and reportedly succumbed to his injury during the journey.
Investigations are continuing.
