Cops probing arrow murder of former footballer

Police in Region Nine are investigating the murder of a former footballer turned contractor who was shot with a bow and arrow and killed some time early Sunday night at Karasabai Village.

Dead is Daxton Parks of St Ignatius. Stabroek News was told that ranks from the Lethem Police Station have been dispatched to Karasabai, which is located in the South Pakaraimas, to investigate the incident and retrieve the body.

A source said that Parks left Lethem on Sunday afternoon on a 45 miles journey to Karasabai where he had some construction work lined up. While there he and a man had an argument. It is unclear what the argument was about but according to the source, Parks was shot with the bow and arrow.

It is unclear which part of his body the arrow struck or if the suspect has been held.

Stabroek News was told that Parks, who was said to be in his late 30s, represented Region Nine at football for several years. He started playing in his teenaged years. This newspaper was also told that he was also instrumental in developing the sport in his home community. He has at least one brother who has represented Guyana in the sport.
